Family House, Szentendre
In the case of this family house, one of the main aspects of design was the compact shape of the building, the living room and terrace with panoramic view, and the use of sustainable solutions. The space, opening up right above the living room, gives a nice, spacious feeling to the living area of the building. The kitchen, stretching out of the building’s main body, gives special character to the building, and also provides visual safety. The gallery, situated above the kitchen, is used as a working space, and could be reached through the staircase from the living room. The private quarters are situated at the two sides of the central living area. You can easily walk to the main entrance of the house from the carport under a simple canopy.
The south facing pitched -roof makes the use of integrated solar panels quite easy. The living room and the bedrooms are also south facing, and are designed with large windows, so we can expect significant solar gain during the winter season. The terrace in front of the living room has adjustable shades which let in the sunshine in winter time. To avoid overheating during the summer, the glass surfaces are equipped with shades and the terraces could be shaded with the help of movable blinds. The pitched-roof and the limestone covering of the south facade could also be aired. The insulated, outside walls of the building also possess large heat-storing capacity. The summertime cooling is provided by windows, positioned in the direction of prevailing winds. Surplus hot air could be released through the windows of the gallery.
