Sukoró family house on a gently sloping site

Every construction project requires different tasks to be solved. I have collected a few unique problems that I helped solve as a construction supervisor.

marking the building position
For plots below street level, I always strive to use gravity-based solutions for building sewage disposal. During the marking process, I requested that the gravity-based drainage system be checked.
We were able to connect the sewage system using gravity, which saves the owners a lot of inconvenience.

structural construction
During construction, I discovered a rather surprising mistake. The contractor, who otherwise had a great amount of experience, forgot to apply formwork release oil after formwork. He did this after the reinforcing steel had been installed, using a spray. As a result, the reinforcing bars became oily, meaning they would not have adhered to the concrete. What’s more, this happened on the 6 m span beam above the living room sliding door. I asked the contractor to wash off the reinforcing bars with gasoline before concreting. The beam is now functioning properly.

ventilation plan
Unfortunately, the ventilation plan was not coordinated with the structural plan. The mechanical engineer would have installed so many ventilation ducts in the reinforced concrete slab that, with a slight exaggeration, there would have been no concrete left between the reinforcing bars. This was obviously not acceptable from a structural point of view, so I had to recommend a modification to the ventilation plan. In the end, the large number of ventilation ducts could only be installed in the flat roof insulation in the entrance section of the building.

waterproofing
The ventilation ductwork was installed in an unusual way in the roof structure of the building. In accordance with the client’s wishes, it was not necessary to further reduce the height of the lower-ceilinged entrance with a suspended ceiling. We wrapped the ducts in thermal insulation on the top of the entrance slab.. A separate wooden structure was built to hold the waterproofing. This solution did not change the external appearance of the building.

carpentry
Communication with the carpenter was quite challenging. He arrived with a huge ego and it was difficult to agree on what solutions he would like to use. However, his nice work was a pleasant surprise and communication improved significantly as the carpentry work progressed.

tinsmithing
Tinsmithing is always visible and very sensitive to workmanship. In the lack of architectural details, we worked out the details of the tinsmithing together with our tinsmith colleague. Finally it was so nice to see the high-quality gable closure and metal sheet roofing.
